Where the Berlin Original tastes best

The Berlin curry sausage dish, or Currywurst, is German fast food with flair. Take one typically German smoked sausage, boil it, fry it, then serve it sliced with spiced and curry flavoured tomato sauce and a side of chips. Berlin invents the dish just after World War II, and it rapidly becomes a Berlin institution, and a city favourite. Sold in fast food restaurants, kiosks or in diners across the city, the Currywurst is such a typical Berliner snack that there is even a museum dedicated to it. The Currywurst Museum can be found close to Checkpoint Charlie, in the heart of the city.

Recommend places to get Currywurst:

1.) Curry & Chili

"Where men are allowed to cry!" is the slogan of this snack stand in Wedding. In addition to currywurst, guests can also choose from sauces with ten different levels of spiciness. If you're stomach's strong enough to take it, you can even attempt to join the hottest club in the world and earn your own hot & spicy certificate. But first, you have to withstand the onslaught of all ten sauces!

2.) Curry 36

Taxi drivers know the best snack bars! Curry 36 is the legendary fast food joint on the Mehringdamm, where night owls fortify themselves for their next excursion and taxi drivers pause for a quite bite. Curry 36 is the western counterpart to “Konnopke” on the eastern side. The staff are Berliners through and through, in the nicest possible way. The curry sausage, of course, is great.
