Buddhism had been practiced in Xi’an for over 1900 years. Until 2012, Xi’an has more than a hundred temples, about 700 Buddhist monks and nuns and around 80,000 followers. Among the eight branches, 6 of them built their ancestral Chambers in Xi’an.

Taoism

Taoism is a Chinese religion with over 1800-years of history, which was created in the Eastern Han Dynasty. Xi’an owns 27 Taoist temples, with 200 Taoist priests and 50,000 followers.

Christianity

Christianity had been practiced in Xi’an for over 1300 years. There are 138 churches, 372 faculties, and 83,000 followers.

Catholicism

There are 94 Christianity churches, 297 faculties and 60,000 followers in Xi’an.

Islam

Islam had been introduced in Xi’an in year 651, more than 1300-years of history to today. There are 21 Masjids in the city.
