National Cherry Blossom Festival

In 1912, Tokyo Major Yukio Ozaki donated 6000 Cherry trees when he visited America, representing the friendship between the two countries. Among them, 3000 are in New York, the other half is in Washington, D.C. Initiated by citizens, the first Washington, D.C. the first Cherry Blossom Festival was held in 1935, after that it became a tradition to organize the activity every year, during March to April to commemorate the friendship between the two countries.
