Rideau Hall is the official home and workplace of Canada's Governor General. The historic residence, set amidst 79 acres of beautifully landscaped grounds, is located just minutes from Parliament Hill.
Rideau Hall was built in 1838 by early Ottawa lumber baron Thomas MacKay; it became the permanent residence of the Governor General’s in 1867.
