SUMMARY INTRODUCTION
Poverty reduction remains a critical, urgent issue that all humans face, receiving extensive concerns from the international community. In 1999, the United Nations Commission on Sustainable Development (CSD) explicitly proposed the slogan of ‘Poverty Alleviation Through Tourism’, calling on all countries to develop tourism to reduce poverty. Based on a think tank composed of experts, World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF), an international organization on tourism focusing on cities, provides intellectual support and strategic planning to facilitate poverty alleviation through tourism in various fields and levels. As for the problems hidden in the poverty alleviation through tourism in western China, we have invited seven experts and officials at home and abroad to share their ideas and work out a solution, offering reference and advice for countries all over the world to combat poverty in underdeveloped areas.
