Established in March 2009, “China Railway Tourism Union”, which is referred to as “CRTU” for short, is a non-profit tourism union organized under the principles of equality and self-willingness, openness and transparency,fairness and self-discipline by over 200 tourism enterprises affiliated to the national wide 18 railway bureaus. In the aspect of running tourist trains, CRTU has the unique resource advantage. Since it is established, CRTU has hosted by itself for several times the promotion meetings for the local tour trips and trans-railway bureau cooperation seminars, and has gained the proactive policy support from China Railway Corporation and different railway bureaus, all of which has brought a bigger effect on the national tourism industry. Every year, with the exception of attending the activities organized and hosted by China National Tourism Administration, Municipal Commission of Tourism Development, different tourism associations and local governments such as the tourism promotion, study tour and tour purchase,also by relying on the superiority of railway passenger and freight transportation, CRTU has organized its members to conduct survey of the new tour programs, through sharing the resources,collaborating tightly and closely and depending on each other, thus to plan the strategies for the railway tourism development.

In August 2013, under the strong support and recommendation of Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development, CRTU has officially entered into the World Tourism Cities Federation jointly established by Beijing Municipal Government, China National Tourism Administration and Beijing Municipal Commission of Tourism Development. This is the first time that the railway tourism has got on the dialogue and development platform of world tourism, also it symbolizes that the railway tourism will integrate fully into and develop together with the world tourism, and to continuously enhance the sustainable

development of railway tourism by working hard together to upgrade the tourism service quality,to strengthen the cooperation and development and to establish a standard system.

In June 2014, after submitting to China National Tourism Administration for approval, under the principles of equality,openness and transparency and fairness and self-discipline, the members of original China Railway Tourism Union agreed willingly to officially establish Railway Travel Committee of China Association of Travel Services (referred to as “RTC-CATS”for short)
