You can find everything at the market, from the wood carvings of Tyrol, print pancakes of Aachen, Lebkuchen of Nuremberg and ceramics of Lužice to silversmiths and so on. The traditional Christmas market, located in front of the old historical buildings of the magnificent City Hall of Hamburg, attracts millions of visitors every year. This year about 80 German exhibitors, artisans and market business dealers came to exhibit their products. The path in the market is like a time travel shortcut that takes you back to the exciting moment of your childhood. Every corner of the market exposes the wonders of Christmas.

Everywhere is filled with the fragrances of roasted almonds, pepper pancakes, nuts and the welcoming mulled wines at the City Hall Square. You can sample delicious food from the features of South Tyrol to the fish burgers of Jürgen Gosch and others.

The numerous children finally arrived at the tool street, for there is a huge exhibiting model railway on the street. Every day at 16:00, 18:00 and 20:00, looking upward, you will see Santa ride his sled to race over the coming tourists and also tell the stories of Christmas.

The 9th HafenCity’s ice recreational activities will allow adults and children alike to enjoy ice skating in the shining fairyland of Christmas!

In front of the Old Harbour Office on the Überseeboulevard, visitors can expect a very special Christmas experience with the theme of “Angles and Troublemakers on Ice”. Among the modern buildings of HafenCity, there is a 260-square-meter ice rink, waiting for ice skating lovers of all ages. Children and young people under 18 can enjoy free admission skating from 12:00 - 18:00. Each day after 18:00, the ice rink will be open to everyone for curling practice---a relaxing group sport, which is also suitable for all ages of Christmas lovers to warm up. There are lots of Christmas stalls around the ice rink, which can keep you entertained while you wait.

Every night, beside the Old Harbour Office, an illuminated little door of the Advent calendar will be opened. Behind each door is a hidden small gift that visitors can win. For children, what is especially interesting is: In addition to handicraft and baking lessons, on Dec. 6, Santa will come to the Christmas market to distribute many little cookies.

3. Saint Michael---Christmas market beside Michael

Over the past 100 years, the first weekend has always been blended with the Christmas market of Michael. This year more than 100 exhibitors will also come to exhibit their products in the church’s basement, church’s square and the parish hall. Since 1919, HafenCity’s oldest Christmas market has attracted tourists to head for the largest church in Hamburg. Take a walk in the markets where there are all assortments of artifact, jewelries, and Christmas ornaments

On the Saturday of all the Advent festivals

During the Christmas season, when the scents of cinnamon and roasted almonds waft in the air, and when shops shine in the light, the City of Hamburg will show its grace.

The well-decorated shops in the downtown will make you think of the best gifts for yourself. One of the spotlights is no doubt Hamburg’s four Christmas parades. During the four Saturdays, colorful processions and well-decorated parade float vehicle will pull though the city center, and all the visitors will be stunned.

Santa Claus, Christmas Elves and reindeer will start from GALERIA Kaufhof / Saturn Market, go through Mönckebergstraße, and travel to Jungfernstieg. Hurry and make time for the wonderful event!

5. Boat of Fairy Tales in Hamburg

Before Christmas, port city Hamburg will specially hold the Boat of Fairy Tales for children. Since 33 years ago, the bank of Inner Alster (bank of Jungfernstieg) has been strongly expected by children during this time. It consists of five boats, and each one has its own free activities.

Baking boats

“Saselbek&Sielbek”

There are rich baking lessons, provided by the renowned Dat Backhaus of city, each day on two boats. Children above three years old can join the lesson. The cookies made in the class can be taken back home.
